TransitCampVancouver Session Pitch Videos

In true BarCamp fashion, everybody (from guru to enthusiast to transit user to activist to everything in between) could pitch their session and we collaborated on the TransitCamp Vancouver schedule together.

They are all tagged transitcampvancouver or you can see them below (the original MP4 file is available if you are flash challenged.

TransitCamp Vancouver was fab! Thanks Karen

Karen Fung, organizer! 20071208-95- TransitCampVancouver07

Thanks mostly to the hard work of Karen (Karen rocks; thanks for the hard work and great organizing!), today's Vancouver Transit Camp was fab! An atmosphere of respect, lots of great people and lots of insights learned! More later (my videos (200MB of videos take over an hour and half to upload!) are currently uploading to blip.tv and I have 2 flickr sets: one from my N95-1 cameraphone and one from my 20D)

Mystery photo turns B&E into a high-tech whodunit

Globe and Mail finally gets their story about WorkSpace's stolen computers being used to upload pictures to flickr at 6:43p.m. (all times are Pacific!), but of course blogs were faster: e.g. Tris Hussey blogged it well before noon, Global Nerdy at 11:14a.m. and Boing Boing at 11:52

From globeandmail.com: Mystery photo turns B&E into a high-tech whodunit:

PATRICK BRETHOUR From Tuesday's Globe and Mail September 24, 2007 at 9:43 PM EDT VANCOUVER — For a week, the late-night burglary at the WorkSpace company was like hundreds of other robberies in downtown Vancouver, with little hope of recovering six stolen computers.
Then Monday morning, pictures from one of the stolen computers started showing up on the social-networking site Flickr – photo album to the world – turning a mundane B&E into a high-tech whodunit.
Dane Brown, manager at WorkSpace, received a call from a friend who told him about the mysterious photo on the company's Flickr web page of a heavily tattooed man peering into the digital camera on one of the stolen computers, an iMac. A second photo shows a man's back with intricate tattoo work.
Flickr, owned by Yahoo, is one of the biggest social-networking sites, an online genre that combines the deeply private with the entirely public. Internet Links * See the photos The Globe and Mail
The man seems to have been entirely unaware of the existence of that world – or at least of the fact that the iMac was set up to send photos directly to WorkSpace's account on the Flickr website once a user agreed to the innocuous request to upload.
Although the photo of the man is titled “Me,

What is DemoCamp Vancouver All about?

Unlike other iterations of DemoCamp, the Vancouver event covers all industries. Idea people will be presenting innovations on all things ranging from business to charity, high-technology to high-art. The purpose is to encourage a cross-pollination of industries and individuals in hopes that people engaged in unrelated endeavors might provide an enlightening perspective on the presenters concept. There is strength in diversity!

Yes, that's right, we're redefining "Demo", but at the same time, showing a connection between all the bright people across Canada and beyond who are gathering to share cool ideas.

The Idea is your Demo
Your concept or idea should be developed enough to support a three minute presentation, but it is not necessary to have a working model to "demo" ... it's the idea that's important! There are three minutes for delivery and three minutes for discussion. The time limit is strict so if you take two and a half minutes to setup your laptop, you only get thirty seconds to present. (the gong hath no mercy).

Submitting your Presentation
There are two ways! In advance via e-mail or posting to the wiki. Two submissions will be selected by the organizers.

or...

The day of by writing your idea (in one brief sentence) on the wall. Attendees will then choose the two most appealing subjects for presentation.

Your Feedback
The purpose is not simply to provide critical feedback but also encouragement to the innovators with the courage to get up there. Discuss, ask questions, find the holes, find the strengths...make the ideas better!

Follow Up
Ideas are good but made great by their implementation. Abstract, theoretical discussion is encouraged but we hope that people will bring concepts to fruition.

Location: First DemoCampVancouver01 event is going to be at WorkSpace (http://abetterplacetowork.com/contact).
